Midwest Sports is pleased to introduce the newest addition to our website…the racquet selector. Our goal with the racquet selector is to inform the consumer in all aspects about a tennis racquet and give them flexibility to easily select the racquet of their choice in a speedy decisive manner.
This new addition can be critical to selecting your new racquet by answering the question…Power or Control?
When buying a racquet, the first thing you must decide is whether you want one that will provide you with power, control, or a blend of the two. If you are trying to add power to your game, go with a racquet that weighs between 8 and 10 ounces, has an oversize head measuring at least 110 square inches (which will give you more power and improve your chances of making good contact with the ball).
If you're an advanced player and can generate your own juice on the court, it's a different story. You're looking for more control, and you can get it with a racquet that's heavier (over 10.5 ounces) and has a head size measuring 90-100 (mid/mid plus). You can also select balanced head light to retain control and maneuverability.
If you're an intermediate, try a racquet that offers a blend of power and control, falling between the heavy, thin-beamed control racquets and the lighter and bigger power sticks. These racquets are considered tweener racquets. They are typically weighted 9.5-10.5oz and have a head size of 95-105 (mid-plus). The balance point is usually even balance to slightly head light and are usually extended in length 27.5 plus.
