I have been using Asics for a while. I really like the support for my slightly wide foot. However, the regular hard court version did not give me the traction I need on clay, and I strained my knee last summer. I believe this is related because I recently bought this clay court shoe, and immediately felt more secure with my footing. In addition the upper shoe sheds the dirt better (less mesh), and the herringbone sole also doesn't cake up (no need to whack the racket unless you enjoy the ritual). In short, a well-thought out version of an already excellent shoe. I will just use it for clay as I have both versions of shoe.
Really like the great fit, slim line look and support of shoe. Really good shoe for narrower feet and bottom is great on clay.
I was a loyal Asics customer and own several pairs of their excellent Resolution 5's that needed no break-in at all in my size (actual 10.5). I bought a pair of these for when I visit Florida for clay courts, and they are frankly miserable in that they are narrow and cramp my feet no matter how I lace them. Forget wearing Thor-Lo socks, I could only get by with the thinnest socks and even those were too tight. A store rep told me that Asics came out with a wide version, and probably made the "d-width" narrower; don't know, but I am no longer an Asics customer. Incidentally, I posted the same review on the Asics website, and they rejected it; apparently the company doesn't allow honest reviews of their products.
