First, I want to say the customer service at Midwest Sports is outstanding. Very professional and customer friendly. Extremely fast delivery. Over the years, I have just had wonderful experience with Midwest Sports. I have been using the Wilson Steam 99s for the past 1 1/2 years. I have two 99s. I bought the 105s as my spare (third) racket. However, I have had a lot of success with it that it may be my primary racket. My opponents have noticed that my serve is faster with more spin. My backhand has more pace. The extra length helps my game overall. Would highly recommend trying the racket. (I am a strong 4.0 USTA player hoping to get to the 4.5 level)
Great Feel Gut Lasts Long
I use VS Tonic 15L Gut mains and Luxilon 125 ALU crosses. The key to making the string last long is to string the crosses at 35 lbs. That way the mains are free to move, but the slick Luxilon does not abrade the mains. String the mains at 67 lbs and you will have power, spin and feel. At 62 years, I still occasionally put the serve through the fence.
This is special made for players who play with extreme topspin, they will be the only ones who can control it. It you fit the mold it is one of those rackets that will enable you to beat players you could not before. Taylor made for heavy topspin hitters. You will be once again the king of the baseline!!!
I currently play with a Prostaff 100LS and wanted to try a larger head size. I also wanted to see if the increased spin created tby this racquet would improve my game. I didn't think the racquet had as solid a "feel" as my prostaff but it did produce a lot of spin. For those seeking more spin, you should try this racquet.
getting ready to buy my third one
i love this racquet!i wish i can use 17g strings but i keep breaking it,now i strung it with lexilon alu rough mains, and gamma glide in the cross at 58 lbs,so far after 10 hours play its holding up!
I was looking for a racquet with power, control, and ease on my arm. This racquet was easy on the arm, looks good, and light weight. However, in comparing it side by side with a Prince 105 ESP and Volkl V1 mid Pro, this one just does not measure up. It did not produce the spin like the Volkl, and was about the same as the Prince. It definitely did not have the power of either of the other two racquets. So, it is not high on any list I have
Wilson steam 105S
I love this racket, strings are critical to the performance of this racket. Luxilon 4 GS is the only string I've found that plays well and gives you durability. This combo of racket and string is lethal !
I would recomend this racquet. Plenty of power and spin. Great for baseliner..
I am 5.0 level like to serve and volley I was looking for more control but with spin to add more consistency on my one-handed backhand Absolutely amazing for one-handed backhand! Very poweful with consistency added and it has amazing control Spin technology that Wilson added as amazing and I absolutely loved it! Great racket! Definitely suggest it to YOU!
I am a baseliner and really liked the power, I would recomend this racquet
strings break fast. Recommended Lux 4G, while more durable, is way too stiff and can hurt your arm. Wilson should have pointed out the limitations as part of their specs
Absolutely Love It
After using this Wilson Steam Series 105S racquet through the Demo program I purchased it and absolutely love it! I'm a 64 year old doubles player in the 3.5 / 4.0 category and this racquet has really made a difference in my serve and ground strokes. Very spin friendly.
Wilson Steam 105
I played with the Wilson Steam 105 demo racquet because it is advertised as spin friendly. It is, and I liked it so I purchased it. I am 69 years old USTA3.5 playing mostly doubles now. I play the net and the baseline and found this racquet to be very good for both. Some people say that strings don't last long, but I can't verify that yet. Overall it is a good racquet for someone not looking for too much power
LIke the feel...BUT
It goes through strings fast. Sensation, Addiction, and now poly verticals with Addiction cross have lasted at most 10 hours of play. I am a 3.5-4.0 player who hits flat but is trying to develop more topspin. Disappointed at the wear...
Love this racquet
I have played about 14 matches with only 1 loss since I bought this. I love the power and the spin. It has done wonders for my game. I just wish it was the same weight as the 99s.
Bought one after trying the demo. Played for the first time today.....I love it. Strung with 4GS @ 64 lbs. Lots of spin and slice, easy to kick serves, solid volleys. This is definitely a stick that will improve my game!
I purchased this racquet on the advice of the tennis techie who was working at the shop. He said this racquet would improve my game and I bought it on a whim. I'm an intermediate player with hard and fast shots that often go out or don't hit the spot that I am aiming. I still do all of that but it feels better in my hand and maybe I even make a few breathtaking shots!!!!
