The racquet was better than I was expecting. I was able to hit through my shots and the spin allowed me to hit harder and with more control. I did have an issue with the strings that came with the Demo but over all very acceptable. My serve became very pronounced and I found myseff haveing to decrease my power which was a great advantage. I did serve more aces and was able to control the court more. My volleys were crisp and on target.
gives more power and spin
This racket provides increased spin with proper strokes and is an awesome racket! It caused me elbow problems at first, but after I changed my strings and lowered the tension, the pain went away. The open string pattern wares down the strings way faster than normal in my hybrid (popping the polys on the main within two to three weeks). Awesome racket with tons of spin potential!
Nice spin exspecially when strung with a poly.Strings tend to move alot so you must constantly move them back into position.Serves are nice down the middle, its has helped my kick serve to add side.Volleys can be trickey so youll need to slice more for depth.Over all a for me its a game changer.
This racquet has tons of spin but does take a few minutes to get the launch angle right. Once you do the ball lands deeps and heavy at the back of the court. I would strongly encourage anyone interested in the 99s to try the Steam 99 LS as I was amazed how stable and maneuverable the 99 LS performed. In fact, the 99 LS may be my next racquest (currently using a BLX Pro Tour and Pro Staff 6.1si before that).
I am getting back into tennis after an extended break and it's time to upgrade my weaponry from my Hyper Hammer 2.0 (that dates me a little) to something a little more modern. I will eventually work my way back to somewhere between a 4.0 and 4.5 and I as I've grown older I am much more of a baseline player than a charge-and-volley type of player. I demoed the Wilson Steam 99 along with a comparable Vokyl and Head. Here's what I liked about the Steam: looked good... felt light in my hand... seemed to give me good spin (especially on slices) and good snap on my serve. There are some dislikes as well. Control wasn't as pinpoint as I would have hoped and off-center hits carry a heavy penalty. I may demo a few more... maybe not. If I were to buy a new racquet tomorrow, it would probably be this one.
A great playing racket. Caught me completely off guard. Yes, the spin I believe is more than more conventional rackets but not a huge difference for me compared to my Babolat Aero Pro Drive. The big reason why I bought this racket was that it played so comfortable in comparison to the APD while still offering all the control and maneuverability. Very solid choice for people who play with control and power and want some more pop on their shots.
Just like my k-factor surge with more power and spin.
