Day 19: July 7, 1985: Boris Becker an unseeded 17-year-old German player wins Wimbledon.
Boris Becker vs. Kevin Curren
Boris Becker became the first unseeded player and the first German to win the Wimbledon singles title against American Kevin Curren 6-3, 6-7, 7-6, 6-4. Becker was just 17-years-old at the time, becoming the youngest ever male Grand Slam singles champion. Michael Chang would later break his age record at the 1989 French Open. Becker would go on to defend his title at the 1986 Wimbledon Championships and win another title in 1989. After his historic title in 1985, Becker told media members, "This is going to change tennis in Germany, I am the first Wimbledon winner, and now they have an idol."
